What qualifies as a price observation

A published price record needs a provider program, a current source, a verification timestamp, and enough context to identify what the amount represents. RightFit records the price only when the source establishes the product or program clearly enough to avoid assigning the amount to the wrong medication, formulation, or billing model.

A price can come from a provider-owned pricing page, product page, plan page, FAQ, or another first-party source that identifies the offer. Secondary review sites can be useful for research discovery, but RightFit’s published provider prices use provider-primary sources rather than importing an unsourced or secondhand number.

Product identity comes before price normalization

The index separates the active ingredient from the product identity. FDA-approved brands, compounded preparations, oral formulations, injectable formulations, and provider-specific products remain distinct records when the source supports those distinctions. Sharing an ingredient name does not make two products commercially or regulatorily identical.

This matters because a market average can become misleading if a compounded semaglutide program is treated as the same product as a branded semaglutide prescription, or if a compounded tirzepatide program is merged with Zepbound. RightFit preserves the product category before any summary is calculated.

Standard prices and promotional prices are different observations

Every published price observation is designed to carry a last-verification timestamp so older records can be identified and prioritized for rechecking.

The same principle applies to sources. The source record identifies where the price came from, while the verification timestamp identifies when RightFit last confirmed the observation. An undated number is much less useful in a fast-moving market.

How price history supports trend reporting

When a tracked price changes, RightFit’s price-history structure can preserve the previous and new observations. That allows a future monthly report to distinguish an actual price change from a newly added provider, a newly discovered formulation, or a change in data completeness.

How the index handles a changing provider set

That also means month-to-month changes in the number of observations should not automatically be interpreted as price movement. A larger dataset can reflect expanded coverage rather than a change in what existing providers charge.

Important limitations

Inactive and review rows are part of data quality, not the public index
